The 3 Triple Threats of “sets” you should follow

There is a Triple Threat of Sets you should follow in being prepared as a gun carrier. In this article we are going over the 3 “sets” you should prioritize. As a person carrying a gun what should your priorities be? Where should you focus your efforts for training? Remember not all training is pulling a trigger.
First of the Triple Threats of Sets – Mind-SET
Have you thought about what you will do in the moment you have to pull your firearm? You should, because the first of the Triple Threats of Sets is MINDSET.
Being ready in the moment cannot happen if you don’t prepare yourself mentally. You are about to go through a process that is very unnatural. I mean, you are pulling a device out that is about to create an explosion in your hands with intent to harm another person. Not really a natural thing for most people. That’s ok, we just need to get our mind right before.
What should you be thinking about ahead of time?
I tell students at the end of every class to do several things before they carry. The first one being prepare yourself for what you’d be willing to pull your gun for. That ultimately means what you might be willing to take a life for. Those are truly the stakes of the game at that point. Then you have to think about all of the consequences that come with that. It could mean you will be arrested. At a minimum, you will be interviewed and questioned by police. You could find yourself losing your gun. In some Texas Cities they destroy your firearm even if it was a clean response. Check Gun Laws for Texas here https://guides.sll.texas.gov/gun-laws/carry-of-firearms
Make yourself a list. It isn’t that complicated, but each person has to make those decisions on their own. My recommendation, think long and hard about it before the moment. You can’t waste time hesitating at that point.
So think about it in depth. Would you be willing to take a life in an instance where you could leave? Let’s say you’re in your local grocery store and a gun fight breaks out on aisle 34. You are way over on aisle 2, do you go engage or do you leave and get home safe to your family? Now consider if that same gun fight breaks out on aisle 4 and you are on aisle 2. That could be a different answer.
This is just one example of things to think about. Just because you are an LTC holder or even a constitutional carry citizen doesn’t mean you HAVE to engage. You have ZERO responsibility in Texas to do anything as a normal citizen just carrying a firearm. If you aren’t an LTC holder or don’t know the laws, then you can enroll below for the easiest class in Texas.

Second of the Triple Threats of Sets – Skill-SET
Yes, Mindset is the most important of the Triple threats of sets, but Skillset is a close second.
We have all heard the phrase “practice makes perfect.” In the firearms world it is extremely important. Shooting skills are a very perishable skill. If you are not regularly practicing, you will not be at your best when you need it the most. If I get lazy and don’t practice or go to the range, I will be less effective. This is coming from someone who has fired tens of thousands of rounds. Trust me on this one, you must TRAIN.
The good news is training isn’t that hard and doesn’t mean time at the range. There are many things you can do to prepare yourself better.
1 – Take a private lesson. Take a look in your local area for options for training classes. Pick one that fits your skill set or maybe find one that will grow your skillset.
2 – Dryfire practice at home. Take all of the rounds out of your pistol and just get used to pulling the trigger. Make sure you focus on the basics, but this is an easy way to train. I have an article https://12thgun.com/why_am_i_missing/ that will give you excellent insight on the basics.
3 – Watch training videos online. There are thousands upon thousands of videos you can watch to improve skillset. Take advantage of the freedom of YouTube
4 – Training Aids. Technology has really exploded in the firearms training world. Devices like Mantis X or The Mantis Blackbeard are both great options. (follow the links in the descriptions to help our page and business out)

Third of the Triple Threats of sets – Tool -SET
The final of the Triple Threats of sets is your toolset.
Make sure you have the right tools in your toolbox. That doesn’t mean you need to go spend thousands of dollars on the latest gear. You don’t need the top-of-the-line gear, but you do need to get stuff that works for you. Go find firearms that work for you. Meaning it doesn’t just need to fit your hand, but it also needs to fit your ability. Do not go buy a large handgun if you can’t handle the recoil. Don’t go buy a small handgun that your hands just envelop. Get something you can effectively put rounds downrange with. Final Thoughts on the Triple Threats of Sets
At the end of the day to do yourself right on the Triple Threats of sets, you need to prepare your mind FIRST, your hands SECOND, and THIRD always carry a gun. It should be in that order. Your mind will dictate what your body is prepared for. Our hands learn through repetition. The tools you carry will enable you to do what your mind and body are capable of.
