On September 1st 2021 Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1927 into law guaranteeing that people who qualify under the law can carry a handgun in a public place in Texas without a license to carry (LTC). Now there are still restrictions of where you can carry, how you can carry, and even who can carry. It isn’t just as simple as putting a pistol in your pocket and going about your day. You do not have to have an LTC in Texas to carry, but you still should.

So if Texas is now a Constitutional Carry State, why do I need to get an LTC?

While it is your right to now carry (open or concealed) in the State of Texas it doesn’t afford you the same protections and peace of mind that someone with an LTC gets.

LTC in Texas

With an LTC you can carry in other states of the Union. 37 other states have some sort of reciprocity with Texas. (Check local laws as they are often different). It gives you the ability to legally bypass “No Gun signs” (not the 30.06 or 30.07 or 51% signs). It allows you to carry in other locations like campus carry and carpool lines. An LTC also gives you some trespassing protections. It also helps speed up the background check process for purchasing a new firearm. Not to mention that it gives you a little more credibility in a law enforcement encounter or legal situation.

You are certainly well within your Constitutional Rights to Carry in the State of Texas without an LTC, but the benefits certainly make it worth the effort to get certified.

Fully recognized by the state of Texas, we offer a self-paced course that you can take from anywhere you have an internet connection. Sign up today and get that peace of mind.
